Grain Research Coordination forms part of Grain SA’s broader commitment to supporting profitable and sustainable grain production. Through farmer-focused research, we aim to deliver practical solutions that directly benefit producers.
Grain SA’s Research Coordination exists to support grain producers with relevant, practical, and forward-thinking solutions. We ensure that farmers have access to the tools, knowledge, and innovations they need to make informed decisions, improve yields, and farm more sustainably. Our research responds to real challenges in the field and is carried out in collaboration with government, industry partners, and expert researchers from local and international institutions.
Our research projects are structured through specialised consortia focused on tackling key research priority areas in the grain sector. These include Plant Health, Crop Improvement, Food and Nutrition Security, Climate Resilience and Human Capital Development. The consortia address research such as: breeding of better cultivars and controlling pests, managing climate risk, building research capacity and promoting smarter, data-driven farming.
Understanding that data is the new gold, the Grain Research Coordination is dedicated to technology transfer and sharing valuable information. Its value depends on how it is collected, analysed, and shared. Research that delivers impactful, accurate and accessible information is prioritised to empower farmers to make confident and profitable decisions.
